This project focuses on the development of an internal restaurant operations performance scorecard used by KFC consultants and coaches who support franchisees and restaurant supervisors in monitoring and improving restaurant performance.
The Power BI report acts as the central analytical and scoring layer of the reporting process. It consolidates operational performance measures from multiple sources and applies the required business rules to calculate KPIs, aggregated measures, weighted averages, performance scores and restaurant rankings.
The Power BI report is therefore a key step upstream of the final Excel reporting process. Once the calculations and rankings have been produced in Power BI, the results are used as inputs for a Python-based automation process, which generates standardized Excel scorecards for restaurants and franchisees.
This workflow separates the analytical and scoring process from the final report generation, ensuring that the same business rules and calculations are consistently applied across the network.
The objective was to provide KFC consultants and coaches with a centralized analytical tool to evaluate restaurant performance and support operational discussions with franchisees and restaurant supervisors.
The solution enables users to:
The solution brings together multiple operational indicators covering different aspects of restaurant performance, including:
Provides visibility into restaurant ratings and customer perception through Google Ratings.
Provides visibility into customer complaints and complaint-related performance, helping identify restaurants or operational areas requiring further attention.
Monitors restaurant performance against ROCC operational standards and highlights areas where operational execution may require improvement.
Provides an overview of customer satisfaction performance and enables comparison of results across restaurants and reporting periods.
Analyzes restaurant performance based on Mystery Visit results, providing an additional perspective on operational execution and customer experience.
Monitors restaurant training performance and provides visibility into training-related measures at restaurant level.
Consolidates key operational KPIs into a 360° view of restaurant performance, helping identify strengths, weaknesses and areas requiring attention.
One of the key purposes of the Power BI solution is to transform multiple operational KPIs and performance measures into a standardized restaurant performance score.
Power BI is used to perform the calculations required to produce the final restaurant scores, including:
Aggregate operational KPIs and performance measures.
Apply weights across performance dimensions and calculate weighted averages.
Apply KPI scoring rules to calculate the overall restaurant performance score.
Rank restaurants and aggregate performance at franchisee level for comparison.
Calculate current-period and year-to-date performance indicators.
This allows operational indicators with different scales and characteristics to be combined according to defined business rules and weighting methodologies.
The result is a standardized performance score and ranking for each restaurant, providing consultants and coaches with a clear view of restaurant performance and the areas that require attention.
The internal Power BI report enables KFC consultants and coaches to:
The Scorecard is part of an end-to-end reporting workflow combining data preparation, analytical modeling, scoring and automated report generation.
Operational data is sourced from multiple systems and prepared for analytical use.
Alteryx is used for specific data preparation workflows, including Training data and part of the Customer Complaints data.
These workflows help transform, standardize and integrate the required datasets before they are incorporated into the analytical model.

Once the analytical calculations, scores and rankings have been produced in Power BI, the results are passed to a Python-based automation process.
Python is used to generate standardized Excel scorecards containing the final restaurant and franchisee performance results.
These Excel reports are then used as the operational reporting deliverables for franchisees and restaurant teams.
Automated Excel Reporting & Scorecard Generation
Multiple Data Sources → Data Preparation / Alteryx → Power BI Data Model → KPI Aggregation → Weighted Averages → Scoring → Restaurant Ranking → Python Automation → Excel Scorecards
This architecture allows Power BI to serve as the analytical and scoring engine, while Python handles the automated generation of the final operational reporting files.

The solution provides KFC operational teams with a standardized framework for evaluating restaurant performance across multiple dimensions.
By centralizing KPI calculations, weighted scoring and ranking in Power BI, the solution ensures that restaurants are evaluated using consistent business rules.
The resulting scores provide consultants and coaches with a clear starting point for operational discussions, while the automated Python workflow transforms the analytical results into standardized Excel scorecards for restaurant and franchisee use.
This combination of Power BI analytics and Python automation improves consistency, reduces manual reporting effort and provides a scalable approach for distributing performance information across the network.
This portfolio demonstration uses synthetic data. The structure and analytical approach are representative of the original internal solution; no real operational or identifiable data is displayed.
